Your Oxford College Men's Basketball team is on a winning streak after taking their last two road games and turning them into victories.
On Saturday, the Eagles faced Georgia Northwestern Tech and pulled out a strong 77-61 victory after trailing by four points at the end of the first half. Freshman standout Sean Wickham led all scorers in that game with 36 points and 13 rebounds; with an outstanding 6-8 performance from the three-point line. Wickham is now shooting 49.1% from beyond the arc this season.
On Monday, the Eagles traveled to LaGrange College to tip-off against the Panthers. With a shorthanded squad due to injuries and sickness, the Men's Basketball team traveled with only 6 players to this game. Lack of depth did not slow down the Eagles though as they pulled out an 84-81 victory. Sophomore captain Zach Breathwaite scored 27 points and also grabbed 11 boards. Also noted, Sophomore Ian Laurie scored 18 points and freshman guard Robbie Wainio also contributed his season high of 20 points. Also, in the absence of Wickham in the post, walk-on players DonTavius Holmes and Sharif Gyagenda stepped up and combined for 9 points and 9 rebounds. The walk-ons also made four clutch free throws in the final minutes of the game to help seal the three point victory.
The Eagles travel to Griffin, Georgia on Friday to face conference opponent Southern Crescent Tech. This will be the final game of this five-game road trip on the Eagle's schedule. Congratulations to the Men's Basketball team and let's cheer them on to a third straight road victory!
