The men’s basketball team closed their regular season on a road trip to Alabama to face off against the Birmingham Southern Reserve Squad. It was a very tight game with 14 different lead changes and both teams being aggressive offensively. Oxford outscored their opponent in the first half 45-42 and finished that half on a 25 to 12 run. The second half was neck and neck with both teams scoring 35 points and Birmingham Southern having a chance to tie the game as the clock expired
Oxford prevailed 80-77 to move their winning streak to five games and on a high note going into the postseason. Sophomore Zach Breathwaite led the team with 20 points and 13 rebounds, followed by other sophomore captain Ian Laurie who had 19 points on 70% shooting for the evening. Sean Wickham also contributed a solid 19 points and 6 rebounds for the game including a big time three-pointer late in the game.The Eagles will begin postseason play at home against Southern Crescent Technical College in the GCAA conference tournament. Tipoff is at 2 pm on Saturday, February 25th and the winner of this matchup will move on to the championship game on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm.
