Men's Basketball Wins in Overtime Thriller
The Oxford College of Emory University men's basketball team won their fourth game in an exciting overtime finish against the Panthers of LaGrange College Reserve Squad. The Eagles won 86-84 to improve to 4-2 for the season.
Sophomore Sean Osei hit a three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 75 apiece and send the game into overtime. In the extra period, LaGrange would score the first basket plus a free-throw early on before Osei would score seven unanswered, bringing the Eagles up 82-78. The Panthers would score a two-point basket, but sophomore Nick Hardin answered back off a spin move that led to an easy basket. Up 84-80, LaGrange would score again to cut the lead in half. Down the court, freshman Ryan Kim drew a foul and would make 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to bring the score to 85-82. LaGrange would march down the court and after an offensive rebound and a foul, the Panthers would make two free throws to cut Oxford's lead to one. In the final seven seconds of the game, a quick inbound to sophomore KJ Walker forced the Panthers to foul immediately. Walker would make the first free throw but miss the second, which led to a last-chance opportunity for LaGrange, but it was unsuccessful.
Four players led the Eagles in double figures, with sophomore Isaac Snyder recording his fourth double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Walker finished with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Osei scored 14 points and eight rebounds, while Hardin finished with 14 points.
Oxford will return to action on Thursday, November 17th, when they play Piedmont University Reserve Squad. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm in Williams Gym.
