Men's basketball loses close game 91-89
Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team lost in a tough matchup against Middle Georgia Prep by a score of 91-89.
At one point halfway through the first, the Eagles held a 10 point lead. Middle Georgia fought back and were down by one at the half.
Oxford built on its lead in the second half, but Middle Georgia came back again to tie the game with eight minutes remaining and eventually take an 11 point lead with a little over four minutes reamaining. The Eagles came back on three-pointers from sophomores Jason Kim and Leo Etah. Sophomore Adeniyi Ogunlana tied the game at 85 with two free throws and two minutes on the clock.
The Eagles held a four point lead with less than 30 seconds left in regulation, but Middle Georgia came back to tie and won the game with 2.4 seconds left.
Etah led Oxford in scoring with 23 points. He also had seven rebounds. Ogunlana had 18 points and six rebounds. Kim (15 points, five assists) and sophomore Ved Desai (13 points, seven rebounds) also scored in the double digits for the Eagles. First-year Alex Straser had 11 rebounds.
The Eagles now sit at 5-4 overall.
Oxford will travel to face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College JV on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
