Men's basketball holds on to defeat Tidewater 74-68
Norfolk, Va. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team defeated Tidewater Community College on the road by a score of 74-68.
Oxford led for about half of the first, but Tidewater came back late to take a small lead. The Eagles were able to come back in the last three minutes on a 3-pointer from first-year Nick Kipers and two free throws and a field goal from sophomore Nicholas Yatros. The Eagles led 35-27 at the half.
During the second, Oxford was able to build on its lead by consistently making shots, while Tidewater had difficulty shooting and making baskets. With two minutes left, the Eagles led 74-55. Tidewater played aggressively in a comeback attempt, going on a 13-0 run, but Oxford was able to hang out for the win.
Sophomore Adeniyi Ogunlana scored 18 points and seven rebounds. Yatros had 15 points, while fellow sophomore Ved Desai had 12. Sophomore Jason Kim had 13 assists, which is tied for second-most in a game in Oxford's history.
The Eagles next play at home against Reinhardt University JV on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
