Desai leads Oxford to 89-84 win over LaGrange College JV in overtime
Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team defeated visiting LaGrange College JV 89-84 in overtime.
The Eagles started out the game playing well. Toward the end of the half, the team was up by 15 points, helped by sophomore Ved Desai and first-year Alex Straser combining to make six three-pointers in a row for Oxford.
LaGrange fought back hard in the second half, scoring 49 points. Down by two with a minute to go, Oxford struggled to tie the game. After LaGrange missed a three, the Eagles got the ball back with 18 seconds left. Sophomore Jason Kim passed the ball to Desai, tying the game on a layup with 8.2 seconds remaining. LaGrange missed another three with seconds left to send the game to overtime.
The visitors struggled to score in overtime, while the Eagles were able to add to their lead on baskets made by Kim and Desai and two free throws by Kim.
Desai dominated in the game, tying his career high 38 points. He also had 13 rebounds. Sophomore Leo Etah had 14 points and six rebounds. Kim scored 13 points and had eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals.
Oxford will next face conference opponent Patrick and Henry Community College on the road on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
