Emory Oxford Tennis Weekend Recap

The Emory Oxford men's and women's tennis teams competed in three matches this past weekend. The men's team competed against Morehouse College on Friday (Mar. 1) and also Gadsden State Community College on Saturday (Mar. 2). The women's team only competed in one match against Clark Atlanta University on Saturday.

Men's Tennis vs. Morehouse:

The Eagles started the weekend off strong with a 7-2 victory over Morehouse.

Starting with doubles, sophomore Julian McCarthy and freshman Kevin Yan won second doubles 8-1.

On the singles side, the Eagles dominated Morehouse, winning 4 out of the 6 matches in straight sets. McCarthy won the first singles match 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Kavi Jain defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-1 in the second singles. Sophomore Tate Coston got the win in third singles 6-2, 6-2. In fourth singles, Yan also won 6-2, 6-2. Freshmen Orest Los and John Funda won the fifth and sixth singles matches, with Los winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 and Funda winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Men's Tennis vs. Gadsden State:

The following day, the Eagles dominated Gadsden State 9-0. Jain and Coston won first doubles 8-3. McCarthy and Yan won second doubles 8-1. Sophomore David George and Los won third doubles 8-3.

The Eagles dominated the singles matches winning each match in straight sets. McCarthy won first singles 6-0, 6-1. Jain also won 6-0, 6-1 in second singles. In third singles, Coston defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-2. Yan won fourth singles 6-1, 6-1. Los defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-2 in fifth singles and Funda won sixth singles 6-4, 6-4.

With these two wins, the Eagles improve to 4-4 for the regular season.

Women's Tennis vs. Clark Atlanta:

The Eagles competed in their final match of the season against Clark Atlanta and loss 9-0. Sophomores Delaney Anderson, Preethi Dharmavarapu, Joyce Min, and Ally Render (pictured below) competed in their last match as an Emory Oxford player.

"All of our players competed hard this weekend," state Head Coach Pernilla Hardin. "The boys competed extremely well and earned two big wins. The women competed hard against a tough opponent and I am proud of them. We will truly miss our sophomores." 

The men will be back in action on Saturday, March 23rd againts Spartanburg Methodist College. The matches will be held on Spartanburg, South Carolina and is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
