Women’s Soccer Loses to Georgia Military
Oxford, GA – The Emory Oxford women's soccer team competed against the Bulldogs of Georgia Military College for their second game of the year. The Bulldogs ended with a 6-2 victory and improved to 2-1-1 for the season while the Eagles dropped to 0-2.
In the first half, the Bulldogs struck first in the 22nd minute to take an early lead. The Eagles had multiple opportunities within the next 7 minutes of action. In the 23rd minute, sophomore Julia Danko found classmate Isabela Schmalz who had a shot on goal, but the Bulldog's goalie came up with the save. Schmalz had another chance in the 28th minute to score but could not get the shot on target. The Bulldogs built on their lead in the 32nd minute bringing the score 2-0. The Eagles had an opportunity to score in the 42nd minute when Schamlz found space, took the shot, but the goalie tipped it and the ball hit the goal post before going out. Georgia Military went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Early the second, the Eagles finally found the back of the net when Schmalz found freshman Maria Tsakalakos who netted her first goal of the season. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs answered quickly and scored 4 unanswered goals to extend their lead to 6-1. In the last two minutes of the game, sophomore Gianna McIntire found Schmalz, who netted her third goal of the season. The game ended with the Bulldogs winning 6-2.
"We just have to stick with it and continue to get better every day," mentioned first-year head coach Ruth Geiger.
The Eagles will go on the road to Gordon State College. This game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start on September 22nd.
