Women's tennis wins national championship for ninth straight season
Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Emory Oxford women's tennis team won the NJCAA Division III Tennis National Championship for the ninth consecutive season and for the 10th time overall. The tournament was held at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The women's team dominated, winning every singles and doubles match for a total of 36 points.
In the first flight, sophomore Lily Liu easily defeated Hudson Valley Community College's Jocelyn Richter 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Olha Los won 6-2, 6-4 against Jenna Georgette from Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester. Liu and Los teamed up in first doubles, easily winning their match against RCSJ with a score of 6-0, 6-0. First-year Chloe Macaluso won her third singles match by defeating Natalie Sosing of Camden County College 6-2, 6-1.
First-years Ellen Liu (6-0, 6-0 against Hudson Valley) and Jennifer He (6-0, 6-0 against Mohawk Valley Community College) won in fourth and fifth singles and defeated Camden 6-1, 6-1 in the second doubles championship.
The final singles match was won by first-year Samantha Goldberg (6-1, 6-0). She paired with fellow first-year Arba Zhao in third doubles to defeat Mohawk Valley Community College 6-0, 6-0.
