Women's tennis competes at ITAs
Jasper, Ala. - The Emory Oxford women's tennis team competed in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships from Sept. 26-28. The tournament was held at Bevill State Community College.
First-years Zari Haque and Anastasiya Speyer made it to the Flight A semifinals in doubles before being defeated by number one seed Jaedyn Martin and Madison Standifer from Wallace State Community College. Speyer made it to the Flight A quarterfinals in singles before being defeated by Standifer 4-6, 6-7 (5-7).
The Eagles had two wins in the consolation stages. In Flight A, sophomore Chloe Macaluso and first-year Karina Artemiev defeated Ady Preston and Lila Oliver from Bevill by a score of 8-3. In Flight B, sophomores Arba Zhao and Samantha Goldberg won over Snead State Community College's Cyra Burks and Libby Kate Talton 8-3.
In singles, Goldberg made the finals before being defeated by Lydia Lichlyter from Wallace State Community College-Hanceville by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
The women's tennis team's fall season is completed, and the team will now prepare for the spring.
